![]() ![]() She was very protective of him and always looks out for his needs. Her main goal was to keep Eragon safe, even stating that should Eragon be captured, she would go so far as to give herself up to Galbatorix, dooming Alagaësia, just to save Eragon. As a result, she went with him in most ventures, though not always agreeing with them. As such, she would do anything to keep him alive and out of harm's way if she could. It is likely that her ferocity came from her mother, Vervada.Īs Eragon's dragon, Saphira had a deep emotional bond with him. In battle she was ferocious and Eragon once told her that he was very glad they weren't enemies. Saphira also enjoyed fighting, but claimed that it was a good thing that Eragon didn't share her taste of fighting, as they balanced each other out. Saphira would not hesitate to give people her blunt opinion and even threatened Ajihad by telling him that if he had tried to kill Eragon, she would have destroyed Farthen Dûr and torn him apart. ![]() Eragon found her huddled up in a cave on the Stone of Broken Eggs after the fight, upset because she thought Glaedr didn't find her comely enough, though Eragon proved that this was not true. After he refused to mate with her, she attacked him, injuring both of them and becoming depressed. While in Ellesmera, Saphira submitted to Glaedr, Oromis' dragon and her and Eragon's fellow mentor. ![]() Saphira was quite vain, thinking herself the most beautiful and magnificent creature in the world. She also felt she was bending her pride slightly by calling Oromis and Glaedr "Master". Saphira was very proud and it has been mentioned that she had never bowed to anyone except Queen Islanzadí and several dwarves ( the latter of which occurred when she was drunk). Though Saphira was a young dragon, she was very wise and often comforted and guided Eragon, as well as sometimes others, when they were upset or needed advice. Eragon and Saphira later found out that her name was also the name of Brom's own dragon. It was the only one that Saphira liked, given that Eragon presented her with mostly male names and those of other female dragons did not suit her. She was named Saphira after Eragon went to Brom for names of past dragons when he decided to find a name for her. Despite her young age she is one of the strongest dragons ever seen. Her body stature was very aerodynamic and built for flying, and in Eldest, her and Eragon's mentor, Oromis said that he had never seen a dragon so skilled at flying and so naturally suited to the sky. Her head was roughly triangular and she also possessed four cheek spines, slightly curved horns and forehead spines between her horns. Her tongue was barbed like a rasp, allowing her to strip meat from bone, and she once threatened to lick Eragon with it should he ever put her through enough worry. She had two serrated fangs that jutted out of her upper jaw onto her bottom lip slightly, and like all dragons, she had white, sharp, knife-like, meat-shearing teeth. The talons and spikes on her neck, back, as well as her tail were bone-white and all were very sharp. She was possessed of enhanced vision, for she was able to see blues more clearly and vibrantly than reds and greens, an ability she showed Eragon when she allowed him to see the world through her eyes. She was also known as Flametongue to the Urgals. The radiating blue tones of her scales resulted the nickname given to her by the elves, Saphira Brightscales, or as she was known in the Ancient Language, as Saphira Bjartskular. Saphira's scales and eyes were the color of sapphires, often described in the book as an intense blue that refracted the light. ![]() She is the daughter of a Rider's dragon named Iormungr and a wild female dragon named Vervada and is a descendent of Belgabad, the largest dragon of his time. She is the last female dragon in Alagaësia outside of the Eldunari kept by Galbatorix. Saphira is Eragon's dragon from the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. ![]()

![]() ![]() Viu? is a contraction of ouviu? – “did you hear?”, and when you translate it directly it seems like a strange thing to say after thanking someone.īut in Brazil, ending your sentences with viu? is a very common colloquialism it doesn't really mean anything but it can make the sentence sound more friendly. When I lived in São Paulo I heard the expression ‘brigado, viu? all the time. If you want to thank someone on behalf of a group, you can't do it one word instead you could say something like te agredecemos. Note that obrigado is also an adjective meaning “obliged”, as in “to be obliged to do something.” For example: vocês são obrigados a me compensar – “you (plural) are obliged to compensate me.” This is derived from the verb obrigar, which can mean “to oblige”, “to force”, “to impose” or “to compel”. In casual speech, obrigado and obrigada are often shortened to a simple ‘brigado or ‘brigada, respectively. ![]() It's like saying “much obliged” in English – you're the one who's obliged, not them. ![]() ![]() The stock price could come under some selling pressure. In early July, as DowDuPont investors see this unfamiliar name on their statements, it would not be unusual for them to sell their Corteva shares first and ask questions later. Corteva and its competitors are an integral reason as to why Malthusian theory is not reality. In other words, unless the number of humans is checked by abstinence, disease, famine, war, or other disaster, widespread poverty and degradation inevitably results. Two hundred years ago, Thomas Malthus, an English demographer, economist and cleric said, “the superior power of population cannot be checked without producing misery or vice.” In the agricultural industry there is currently a “perfect storm” of negativity between the ongoing trade war, destructive soy demand thanks to the African Swine Fever and a terrible spring planting season in the Mid-West due to flooding. These are issues the company has dealt with for nearly a century.Īs a value investor, I like to buy quality businesses when their industry is subject to negative sentiment. The chief risks facing Corteva includes stiff competition, patent expirations, and changes in the regulatory landscape. The balance sheet is conservative with about $2 billion of cash and net debt-to-EBITDA of roughly 2X. The Company's Board of Directors authorized a three-year, $1 billion share repurchase program this week, representing about 5% of shares outstanding at current prices. The ongoing payout ratio will probably be in the 25-35% range, so the dividend should grow with increases in earnings over the years. ![]() All the while keeping their farmer-focused culture.Ĭorteva will pay its first dividend in September which annualizes at $0.52 a share for about a 2% yield. Management is committed to a strong capital allocation discipline with targeted returns-on-invested capital in the 15-18% range versus cost-of-capital of about 8%. Simply put, consumers and governments are not demanding all farmers become “organic.” As such, crops protected by products derived from biological organisms rather than synthetic chemicals remains a niche market, representing less than 5% of the addressable agricultural market.Īs a business, Corteva has attractive prospects. That said, it must cater to the market it serves so currently, most of its crop protection products are chemicals. Protecting crops from external threats is part of this mandate.Ĭorteva is committed to delivering effective and environmentally friendly formulations and it is a leader in organic solutions. Yes, Corteva is in the crop chemical business but to serve farmers and help feed the world, seeds need to realize their full potential. To say the seed business has high barriers to entry is probably an understatement.Ĭorteva’s crop protection business includes herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and biologicals. Corteva is a top global player with a best-in-class genetics platform that is widely regarded as being impossible to replicate, for all practical purposes. Their patented seeds make crops resistant to damaging insects and significantly improve yields. ![]() The seed business is a high-tech one and Corteva spends 11% of its sales on research and development, surpassing all competitors. Roughly 55% of revenues are generate by seeds and the remainder come from crop protection products.
